Dr. Krystle Hutsel

Veterinarian

Dr. Krystle Hutsel received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She completed an equine internship at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center in Gilbert, Arizona. She has called Western Trails Veterinary Hospital her home since July of 2011. Dr. Hutsel enjoys internal medicine cases and has a passion for dental health. Dr. Hutsel has completed continuing education in ultrasound for dogs and cats, and she is excited to be able to use that additional tool to best serve our pets. Dr. Hutsel enjoys hiking, mountain biking, reading, and horseback riding. She lives in the East Mountains with her amazing husband and two special daughters, two dogs, 1 cat, 2 horses and chickens.

Dr. Crystal Clark

Veterinarian

Dr. Clark moved to New Mexico from Canada. She obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Calgary but also has a bachelor’s in Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge and a PhD in neurology from McGill University. She grew up on a small cattle ranch/grain farm in Rural Alberta, Canada so she has a special interest in livestock and cattle medicine. She is married with 3 children and a small funny
farm, including cattle, goats, chickens, guinea hens, dogs, and cats (including 2 Devon rex’s and 1 sphinx).

Dr. Lane Beu
Veterinarian

Dr. Lane Beu was born and raised in Colorado, received his veterinary degree from Oregon State University in 2024, and is excited to call New Mexico now home. His main passions include pain management and equine and camelid preventative care, and he looks forward to applying these interests to serve the community. In his free time, he loves to spend time with his wonderful partner and two crazy dogs, whether it’s trail running, camping, mountain biking, or hiking.

Dr. McKenzie Branham
Dr. McKenzie Branham
Veterinarian

Dr. McKenzie Branham was raised in Texas and she obtained her Doctor in Veterinary Medicine from the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2026. She has a passion for small animals, especially cats. Dr. Branham has a special interest in chronic pain management and soft tissue surgery, and she is pursuing further certification in acupuncture. Outside of the hospital, she loves visiting coffee shops, thrifting, drawing, and spending time with friends and family and her two cats, Bean and Poppy.

Registered Veterinary Technician

Anita received her Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology in May 2013. At Central Community College and has been working at Western Trails since June 2013. My passion of animals started as a little girl taking care of mice, rabbits, ferrets, rats and dogs. I grew up in a small town and even though I live in Albuquerque, I feel right at home in Edgewood. I love all animals but my favorite breed is Dachshunds and I always have two at hand. I love hiking, mountain biking and anything outdoors.

Born and raised in New Mexico. I have always adored working with animals. I worked at an equine training facility for 6.5 years, I went to Pima Medical Institute and graduated from Veterinary Technician program as an RVT. I love working with horses, they are just the best!

Carol is originally from Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, but was drawn to the mountains and sunshine of New Mexico in 2004. A registered veterinary technician with over 20 years experience in veterinary medicine, Carol’s special interests are anesthesia, pain management, feline medicine and anything about horses. She also teaches budding veterinary technician students part time at CNM. Carol is proud to be part of the Western Trails team, and when she’s not working with animals, she loves to travel with her husband, and spend time with her 5 dogs, 7 horses and 2 cats.
